Clean Tootsie Rolls

I don’t know about you but tootsie rolls were hands down my favorite candy when I ate unhealthy food. It’s embarrassing how much I’d eat at once. I put my newly purchased 6 lbs of dates to good use by making these!! It took a few tweaks but oohhhh my gosh. The flavor is spot on, I love it!!

Makes: 8 Tootsie Rolls

  • 80 g pitted dates (12-13 dates, 1/2 cup)
  • 2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp melted coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp + 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp butter extract (Optional)

Mash the pitted dates with the unsweetened cocoa powder. My dates are wet and not dried yet, so if yours are dried and too difficult to mash, consider soaking them in water overnight first. Once mashed, add the melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, and butter extract. Mix and mash until evenly incorporated. Take 1 tablespoon, form a cylinder, and place it on Saran Wrap. Roll and done! Repeat to make 8 tootsies. Place in the fridge overnight to thicken more and enjoy the next day.
